* First job at Interlochen Center for the Arts It is a famous place for students who are interested in learning various arts. We often see performances. People from many countries come to study here, especially Europeans. My friends and I went there, 3 of us. My position is dining service, but I work in a Cafeteria, which has many positions. Each day is different and changes every shift, such as changing soft drinks, salad bar, changing trash cans, washing dishes, and wiping tables. If I don't feel like talking to other people, I will just go wash dishes. LOL. When summer really came, I was changed to a cook. There are 3 cafeterias. My rate increased to $14/hr. OT $21/hr. During that time, it was really hard and I got a lot of wounds, but I had to fight until I got burned. LOL. It was like cooking for a giant because there was a lot. I was as small as the pot when I finished cooking. It was fun and tiring at the same time. The good thing is that many friends I met were really nice, both the kids on campus and my colleagues. But some people were, well, haha. And no one discriminated against me at all, which was great because there are many nationalities on campus. And the manager is as kind as the world loves you. The environment is that you see a lake every day. It's so beautiful and I never get bored. Michigan is always cold. It was hot for 2 weeks. The accommodation is on campus. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to work. Lately, they have provided bicycles that take 5 minutes to get there, and there are concerts almost every week. You can sneak a peek for free, like the old jazz. Sometimes, kids from the campus come to perform. Most importantly, here, there are 3 free meals, so you can save a lot. During the summer, the dining service is free ice cream every day!!!! You can eat as many times a day as you want until your brain is cool.
* The second job I did was at Tom's food market, the rate was $13.5/hr. No overtime was allowed. We agreed that we would work 25 hrs a week, but no overtime was allowed. They had regular employees and this year they hired a J1. Otherwise, they would call me in to talk. My friend got it once. But here, I worked as a deli, which was putting toppings in boxes and labels. It was very easy and not hard at all. The aunties I worked with were very kind and loved me like a grandma at home. Overview: I fell in love with Michigan, a city full of kind, lovely people. The weather is great. When I feel down, just looking at the lake makes my life happier. This trip taught me a lot of things, such as patience. LOL But it will be an experience that will stay in my heart forever. If anyone decides to go, go. You can't find this experience anywhere else except by doing something like this. I hope everyone will understand and find it useful. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. IG: @fayapc
